Brendan aka Code_Red is a DJ hailing from Perth, Western Australia. He first entered the Perth Club scene under the moniker Code_Red in 2014 as one of the resident DJ’s for the Surface Tension promotions crew. Brendan developed his passion for mixing electronic beats with eclectic sets ranging from Future Beats, Jersey Club, Trap, Rap, Hip-Hop to Dubstep. After discovering Blazing Festival in 2017 his passion for the events industry blossomed and began building a career in the Sound & Lighting industry. 

2018 saw the launch of the Drum & Bass alias SMOKESCREEN alongside his long-time work colleague and raving buddy Ben Casella (DJ Flye). This shared passion for the genre has seen the two spend many late nights stomping on sticky dancefloors and mixing blends together deep into the kick-on’s. After years of sharing tracks and giving each other advice on their mixes, the duo decided to join forces and haven’t looked back. 

Fast forward to 2020 and with 10 years’ experience DJ’ing various parties, functions, pubs, clubs, bush doofs and festivals, Brendan has gained a wealth of musical knowledge across a variety of different sounds. Currently working for IconAV in stage design and sound & lighting production, Brendan moved into the production manager role for Unbound Events crew and is co-founder of TRACTION promotions, a brand new label highlighting the most raw and underground sounds and venues of the Perth dnb scene. With a brand new studio finished and some original tracks alongside Ben as SMOKESCREEN in the works, this year has shown just a glimpse of things to come.

TRACTION delves deep into the crates to discover the hidden sounds from across the underground realm of electronic dance music.  We explore as styles from Lo-fi Hip-Hop, Deep House to Liquid Drum & Bass and Breakbeats. Featuring a host of local Australian artists & bringing you a weekly Drum & Bass residency from SMOKESCREEN counterpart Ben Casella direct from the UK.
