These guys have been dubbed as one of the bands responsible for kicking off the global dance music craze and have now been accepted into the Rock & Roll Hall of fame, as there is not a Dance Music Hall of Fame just yet 😉
In 1994 they Toured in South Africa and performed in JHB and Cape Town at the Good Hope Center, while having their after party at the well know early dance club “The Play Ground” (aka De-V-Ate) in Loop Street leaving a few long lasting memory’s with the locals…
Depeche Mode are now among the new inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, alongside Notorious B.I.G., Nine Inch Nails, Whitney Houston, T. Rex and the Doobie Brothers.
The 2020 Induction Ceremony aired on HBO on Sunday night, with the English electronic group accepting their award remotely.
In the pre-recorded special hosted by Charlize Theron, Depeche Mode were honoured by musicians such as Arcade Fire’s Win Butler, CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
In the acceptance speech, singer Dave Gahan said: “You know, growing up, listening to music on the radio and having music, it really kind of helps us to feel normal—feel part of something. That’s what music does for people and I think that’s what Depeche Mode has done for many people. I think that music really brings people together, and God knows we need that more today than it seems like any other time.”
