We are still trying to work out where the time has gone… It’s been eighteen years since our very first live broadcast on the 19th of November 2020 and it has been quite a crazy ride. We started streaming online in South Africa when the only way you could get on the internet was on a dial up connection and most people in this country did not ever realize you could stream audio on the inter-web as it was then known 😉

Over the incredible years when we tried our best to defeat the issues of live streaming and trying to keep a captivated audience without the line dropping due to Telkom closing the ports for no reason and having to sit on a phone line until someone bothered to pick up the call, we kept the faith that one day technology would catch up and allow us to have a solid and constant stream.

Our evolution of Mutha FM over 18 years 2002 – 2020

In the first 8 years of the platform being established it was an on-going battle with tech issues and sometimes we were down more than we were up.

In 2010 the age of the blackberry as we called it, the mobile phone device began to take shape and our streaming medium widened and gave us a more direct way to get in touch with our listeners, at that time we had made the move to stream from an oversees server as they were far more advanced and gave us better streaming quality and our oversees listenership started to bloom.

Since the start of Mutha, DJ’s and artists have been a part of the platform and if it was not for the sheer passion for music for all of us who had a part of keeping Mutha going, it may have failed a long time ago.

(Studio 2 –  Cnr of Shortmarket & Burg Street, Greenmarket Square, Cape Town)

The past decade has been an up hill but has given us the knowledge and vision to see where we are going and what is possible in the digital space, we have always been ahead of the curve and at the beginning maybe too far, but we now are in the right place at the right time with the knowledge and experience we built up waiting for this moment.

This platform is about helping people, helping the artists who join us reach their goals and help citizens who are less fortunate by giving them that bit of light at the end of the tunnel, whether its a spotlight or a security light the name MUTHA stands for looking after the people and bringing hope to those who feel like there was none.

(Studio 3 –  Catwalk Cafe, Greenmarket Square, Cape Town)

The spelling Mutha is taken from a youth slang terminology for “Mother”, and we came from the Mutha City in the Mutha Land on Mutha Earth watching over the people most in need.

In 2013 we started Mutha Cares NPO to help people who needed our assistance whether it is raising funds or awareness for other NPO causes and we have helped many charity’s with social upliftment in different facets.

Mutha FM plans to strive and keep pushing through the difficult times that lay ahead and continue to shine the light on those who need it.

Anything is possible with the right love, passion and drive, and we are the proof as South Africa’s first Internet Radio Station we have evolved into the Global Music Media Lifestyle Platform we are today.

To commemorate our 18 years going from an Internet Radio Station to Music Media Lifestyle Platform we will be celebrating a week long with shows specials from all of our DJ’s and we have invited some of the original team you may know to come back and drop an hour set including Niskone, Tune Raider, Erefaan Pearce, Dave Mac to name a few…

Please tune in and enjoy our week of birthday beats from Monday the 16th till Sunday the 22nd of November with our birthday being on the 19th of November 2020

God Bless and thank you for listening for the passed 18 years 🙂 xox
